A versatile and enthusiastic musician, he infuses his performances with all his artistic experiences, as demonstrated by the versatility of his repertoire.
João studied in Paris with of Michel Dalberto and Claire-Marie Le Guay, and in Porto with Madalena Soveral.
Regularly invited to play at the most important national venues and festivals, performing as a soloist, in ensembles, or with orchestras, João is also building an emerging international presence, with a recent agenda in Spain, France, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg.
João is the pianist of the Ars ad Hoc ensemble, a chamber music group dedicated to modern and contemporary music.
Throughout his artistic journey, he has worked with the most important composers of our time, such as Beat Furrer, Clara Iannotta, Helmut Lachenmann, José Manuel López López, Oscar Bianchi, and Simon Steen-Andersen, and has performed numerous premieres of contemporary works. João is the guest of such orchestras as the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, Orquestra das Beiras, Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto, and ensembles such as the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain and Remix Ensemble; he collaborates with conductors Bruno Mantovani, Joana Carneiro, Nikolai Lalov, Pedro Neves, Peter Rundel, and Tito Ceccherini, among others.
In the 2026/2027 season, João will share the stage with soprano Camila Mandillo in the ECHO Rising Stars tour, with concerts in the major European Venues, such as Philarmonie de Paris, Konzerthaus Dortmund or Philarmonie de Luxembourg, among others.
His discography includes Alepo e outros silêncios (2022, Artway Records), Espectros (2023, Nepermusic), Le Grand Tango (2024, Percos Music), Os sons em volta (2025, Artway Records), and ars ad hoc (2025, Nepermusic).
João is represented in Portugal by Encorarte.
